I am writing from a consumer point of view, who uses this unit as a tv and a monitor in a small apartment. I am a law school student who appreciates good electronics and is fairly tech-savvy, but am in no way a computer or visual professional. I have written it to hopefully address anything you might run across, and make up your mind on this unit.

FIRST a note to anyone trying to use this as a monitor via the HDMI input, this tv is set up for that connection to be used as a ‘tv’ by default, which is why everyone is having issues using the HDMI port as a monitor, it is very easy to fix (but you will lose audio via hdmi, so you’ll have to plug in from the headphone jack). I got this from a review on newegg, and it works perfectly.

-Hit the Menu button on your remote
-Scroll down to Input, Press right.
-Scroll down to Edit Name, Hit Enter.
-Scroll down to HDMI, Hit Enter.
-Scroll down to DVI PC, Hit Enter.

I guess it is a firmware issue, but again, easily correctable, and explains many of the very negative reviews on here regarding image quality as a monitor via HDMI.

Now, onto the review. This thing is incredibly pleasing aesthetically. The touch of red is just nuanced enough to be perfect, and really gives it a nice touch. The bezel itself is fairly narrow (TV standards), although I guess you could consider it thick for a stand alone monitor. It is bright glossy black with the touch of red inlaid along the outside, with a very narrow clear frame that bring the unit together. The actual speakers are invisible, and if one saw this on a desk, they would probably be surprised to hear the sound coming out. Complementing the touch of red are the on-unit controls, which are normally invisible, but light up when you touch the panel, again red to match the darker accents on the monitor itself. The base is of a fairly decent size and is mostly black, with the same hint of red, while the neck to the monitor is clear plastic, which means it usually turns the color of whatever might be behind it.

As far as utility and movement goes, there appears to be considerable confusion: the unit both swivels, and tilts, albeit with caveats. Most other tvs that I have seen, including my parents 32″ 2007 samsung turn from side to side along the neck, e.g., it appears that the tv, when swiveled, is facing off center. This unit has a much better setup, the base and the monitor swivel around an internal, smaller unit, so it appears that the entire monitor is turning along the surface. This is of course, not the case. This works much better than my parents tv and other setups I have seen, because the range of motion is very limited if just the neck is turning, otherwise it becomes unstable or untenable for it to turn further, therefore your range of motion is very limited. Because on this unit, the base itself rotates around a center unit, it can be turned to face completely backwards if necessary, a pretty neat trick, all while looking like it is facing that particular direction. You will know when it has reached the limit of its range, because it will stop turning. The only issue this might cause, if you are turning the monitor on a regular basis, is that you cannot have it resting on a cloth that will `catch’ on the bottom of the rotating base, because it will drag it in-tandem with the rotation of the monitor. I understand how people get confused, I was trying to turn the lcd, like my parents unit, while keeping the base motionless, and it’s not possible, but again, the way it does swivel is quite superior.

Now, onto the tilt. It tilts, but only up from a flat horizontal plane, it cannot be tilted down past where it would be even with the desk underneath it. Not a problem for me, but might be for someone who is sticking it on a shelf on their desk, above their viewpoint. Also, in comparison to some other monitors, it does not have any built in height adjustment. Not an issue if you are using it at a standard desk (it has a fairly long ‘neck’), but something to note.

As far as performance from a , the p2570hd is incredible for the price point. I will address using it as a monitor first. Again most negative reviews involving image quality as a monitor had to do with the HDMI issue, and I admit when you plug in a standard HDMI from a computer, (either hdmi-hdmi or dvi-hdmi), the image looks atrocious, it doesn’t scale right, and is very blurry and pixelated. For whatever reason, you have to do the fix outlined above. Then, like magic, it comes into perfect and absolutely gorgeous focus. It looks stunning, pictures are great, everything looks right, without any adjustments (it is very bright however, might have to turn that down a touch or two.) As a monitor, it also does an incredible job via VGA. If you are worried about your computer not being able to handle it, my parents’ older 2007 dell laptop with just standard graphics (onboard intel), sends VGA 1080P to this unit flawlessly. My 2006 Dell with onboard nvidia 7600 256 looks the same via dvi-hdmi as my parents via VGA—flawless. If you have a computer from pre-2004 (just guessing), you might have some problems. Also, all of my computer were running Windows 7 without installation of any Samsung drivers, so do not worry that Samsung does not have a windows 7 driver out, it’s not necessary and if your computer can run windows 7, it should do perfectly fine with this monitor. Just a note, the HDMI fix is ONLY necessary if you are using the HDMI port for the monitor application. VGA-VGA perfect… DVI-DVI perfect. The speakers are great for monitor use (again MONITOR USE, TV use later in review), because you are sitting close to it.

As far as the monitor’s color production goes, it looks great, as long as you are at, or above eye level. I have a hard time imagining a desk where this monitor would be significantly higher than an individual’s eye level, so you should be okay. That being said, if you are below eye level, you will see the picture darkened somewhat. The viewing angle is definitely slanted towards either eye-level or above, which makes perfect since for a monitor… you will either be sitting in front of it, or if others are around, they would be standing and looking down at it, which actually is not bad at all to do. Horizontal viewing angles are not bad at all, equal to or better than both my 2006 dell laptop’s 17″ with the WSXGA Wide XGA+ resolution, or my parents 2007 dell with a standard WXGA panel. They are however, limited compared to our ollllld dell desktop’s CRT 17″ monitor. But completely useable from a monitor standpoint.

I do NOT, however, recommend using this as a long distance monitor… anything further than about 5 feet out, and you will be squinting big time if you are trying to read text/edit documents. You might be able to boost text size via windows and make it useable, but to be honest, no monitor in this size range can perform any better from a distance. If you are using it to say, pull up Hulu from a distance, you should be fine.

As far as input lag or ghosting goes as a monitor, I have not picked up on any. I have used Netflix (Terminator 2), my computer’s onboard DVD player, and some actual PC games, and everything is silky smooth without any perceived lag or ghosting effects. I know there is supposedly a large difference between the newer 120hz panels and this 60hz panel, but I’m not really buying it. I have never noticed ghosting on my parents 60hz panel, or on other 60hz panels I have seen, or any input lag for that matter, I am guessing the difference is likely techno-hype, or only discernible in very exclusive applications. I imagine some cheaper 60hz panels have some issues with this type of thing, but the Samsung handles it fine.

Now, as far as the TV itself goes, the HDMI is plug and play, and shoots out flawless HD (720p via Dish Network) picture without any issues. I imagine that the port is calibrated for this use (by default), and that is why some people have issues using the HDMI for PC purposes. Monitor also shoots out perfect 1080P via component connection through an xbox 360, a huge bonus for those that have legacy models without HDMI, like myself. The older model of this panel actually had 2 HDMI inputs, this only has one… however on the old panel, one input was in the side and hardly useable, along with the RCA out-jack, so moving everything to the back and losing an HDMI port is fine with me. You should be able to use component video cables to give yourself two HD sources for tv applications anyways. Standard definition looks fine, nothing to really brag about, but nothing to really drag on either, probably slightly below average in relation to set-top LCD tvs, but this monitor also costs over a hundred less, so I consider it a wash. More than watchable. Via TV applications, again, did not pick up any input lag for gaming, or ghosting via tv, even in very heavy action sequences.

The picture itself looks fine, I only turned down the brightness and contrast to get a picture I really liked, either via hdmi or component. The viewing angles that were not much of an issue for monitor application could be trouble here. If you plan on sticking this as a tv unit in your bedroom or up on a high dresser, you will want to buy a wall mount that lets you tilt the tv downwards, otherwise the viewing angle will be too much. Ditto if you plan on have this on an entertainment stand and people will be watching it from the floor. Horizontally it does fine, and even alright vertically if you are above it, both from a distance+close, but if you are below it, then it will not perform well. This fact is probably the single largest detraction of the unit, but when you consider what this panel is trying to do, for the pricepoint and capability it brings, they had to let some things go, and this is hardly a deal breaker. For my personal situation, it does not hurt anything, but some people might think differently. You cannot expect this to be equal in performance to a dedicated tv that costs hundreds of dollars more. The Samsung memorizes your picture settings for inputs (a nice touch), making flipping between them easy and painless.

I personally have no qualms with the sound, it is definitely on the tinny side, but more than serviceable for the average person. If you are used to using a sound system or high cost audio systems that cost more than this actual monitor/tv, than yes, this will be a step down and you will likely be disappointed… but for the size/price, it does fine. If you want to divert the sound to a sound system, it is painless, there is an optical audio out, and a headphone jack out… if you want the standard red/white RCA, just buy the plug (maybe 4 bucks) that converts single headphone audio to the dual setup (green to white/red)… yeah you’ll probably lose a little fidelity in the process, but nothing that 99.99% of the population will be able to pick up on. Either way, if the sound bothers you, it is simple to either hook it up to you sound system (as described), or just use the headphone jack to hook to a pair of computer speakers.

So, despite one drawback (upward viewing angles), when you consider what this Samsung accomplishes for the pricepoint, it is an easy five star rating. 1080P monitors in this size range will cost you maybe 50 bucks less, and will perform similarly, whereas this unit has a fully function tv built into it, and looks incredibly gorgeous to boot.

Hopefully this review helped your decision, and I stress that this text is for a consumer, a visual professional will likely want to look elsewhere to find the minute differences that 99% of the population will never even notice/care about.

Note: I am not a Samsung fan-boy or the type of person that simply gushes over a product because they own it. For example, Samsung impression cell phone, incredibly bad phone that made me regret buying a Samsung. My2570HD (not purchased from amazon) does have one stuck pixel that I haven’t been able to fix, but that’s just the luck of the draw for any manufacturer/tv/lcd, and Samsung is better than most. It is in a not-noticeable spot, so I am not too worried about it.

Customer Reviews

Refurb or Not? Still a great product – SRB – DAVIS, CALIFORNIA, US
Purchasing refurbished items is ussually frowned upon but I believe Amazon provides the best assurance possible when selecting where to buy the product from. My refurbished monitor is in excellent condition and has been on since I bought it. I am sure it is not true in all cases since the items might have a little more wear but all in all it is a good gamble to save money.

This particular monitor is great. I live in a small apartment and this it my main monitor and TV as well. The color is great and gaming is excellent. Of course I knew this from extensive reading on the monitor.

            Decent Video, Mediocre Monitor – D. C. Sears –
Using as a secondary monitor as well as with my Xbox360. The image is sharp, but the viewing range is pretty limited which means colors can warp from top to bottom screen even when you’re sitting directly in front of it. Do NOT buy this monitor for digital art/design.

The monitor itself is very attractive. The touch sensitive buttons on the front (power on, volume, etc) are pretty useless. I always grab the remote even it it’s farther away than the tv.

It handles tv and film very well, especially from a distance (but that kinda defeats the purpose of the high resolution).

            bigger view! – Barbara L. Adams –
i love my samsung monitor! i already had a samsung tv and loved that so when i saw this hdtv/monitor, i didn’t have to look any further, my choice was made. what a difference! don’t find my self moving around to see the monitor or moving in because it’s too small. love the frame too, so classy.

Picture Quality Performance: With 480i images we noted some jerky motion artifacts in the background of some scenes. However, I did not see much offensive negatives in the foreground and was very pleased with the detail offered in 480i. The processors did a very nice job. Color rendition was not oversaturated, if not sometimes a little muted.

With our Blu Ray set to 720p resolution to match the TVs resolution we were very impressed at the bright sharp images and intense color offered. The TV really has a lot of pop with HD material. We also did not note the negative background judder with HD material and this proved out with our HD HQV processor testing as well. Black levels were deep and occasionally oversaturated but not often enough to really be a strike against. Dark shadow detail was totally acceptable for a TV of this size and price range.

Off center viewing was average on this LCD TV with the contrast and black levels fading at around 35 degrees off angle – again not bad for this price range.

Calibration: Calibration through the menu was easy and the C350 did a nice job calibrating to near D6500K. There are advanced white balance controls included on this TV which is unusual for this price point. There are also many more advanced settings than I would have thought such as Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast, a Gamma setting, and a nifty Flesh Tone setting that will take the onscreen flesh tones from a yellowish to a pinkish appearance at your whim without changing the overall color appearance of the picture much.

Picture settings as calibrated from the Custom Setting:

Backlight: 8
Contrast: 92
Brightness: 46
Sharpness: 10
Color: 53
Tint: Unchanged
Black Tone: Dark
Dynamic Contrast: Low
Gamma: +1
Color Space: Native
White Balance-
Rgain: 27
Roffset: 24
Flesh Tone: +1
Edge Enhancement: Off

As far as aesthetic considerations go, the LN32C350 has straightforward design and better than the other 32″ models on the market except the LG’s. You almost cant believe how light the TV is upon lifting it, a scant 15.7 pounds. The TV is 3.25″ in depth and 8″ with the stand. The included table stand is very light and inexpensive and the TV must be turned on its head and the table stand screwed on upside down to accomplish the assembly. It would be more convenient if Samsung would just include the stand already assembled on the TV, same as some other manufacturers. The table top stand does not swivel side to side. The 2″ bezel framing of the TV is gloss black and non-spectacular but does contain a sloped design element at the bottom.

Audio Output: The two inbuilt 5 watt speakers barely get the job done. From 10 feet the user will need to keep the volume control at 75% of total capacity. The volume quality also is lacking with a tinny character and no base – but that’s about all you can expect from 5 watt speakers.

Customer Reviews

            Great TV! – D. Erickson – texas
What I like about this TV is the info screen, lots of info with next program. Can also show all channels at a glance with what is playing on each – a cool little feature. Very light, great picture sound, and lots of extras like usb for photos/music, easy access buttons on front to turn off – hard to see – which is what you want. Perfect for price.

Only thing missing is built in interent and wireless nic, lol.

Great Bedroom HDTV – Don G. Connell – Lubbock, Texas
I upgraded my bedroom tv to this Samsung HDTV. The picture and quality of a Samsung HDTV is outstanding. I had another brand of HDTV in there first, but with the new HD Receiver I purchased, I couldn’t get a picture on it. I moved it to another room and with the Samsung I had no problem at all. I now have 3 Samsung LCD HDTV sets in my house, Living Room 52″, bedroom 32″ and 23″ in dressing room. I couldn’t be happier with my purchases of Samsung HDTV TV Sets.

I have had several people tell me that they have never seen a better picture on a HDTV than the ones I have.

Samsung 32″ LCD HDTV – L. Smith – Tampa, FL USA
No more Sonys for me. Samsung has the finest quality picture on the market. This is one fine TV.

After 18 years with a 25″ RCA tube TV, I finally stepped up to HD. After watching (and complaining) for three months about the inconsistent picture quality of a previous HDTV purchase (Sylvania TV/DVD combo), it’s a real pleasure to watch a quality TV with correct color and black levels that aren’t overwhelming.

Great picture out of the box, even from extreme angles; so far I’ve only upped the brightness. When I get some time, I’ll use “Video Essentials” to set everything correctly. My wife claimed that the previous TV looked fine to her; after two days with this TV she commented that the picture was really clear. She was watching “Sex and the City” on Showtime HD and said it was so clear that she could see all the details in one of Carrie’s jackets, when before she thought it was all black. She also commented on the detail in A Bug’s Life on DVD.

For me the test was Breaking Bad on AMCHD, and although the show’s palette tends toward dark and greenish, it’s far better than the Sylvania I replaced. After having watched an episode of Cougar Town, however, I’m beginning to believe that broadcast TV is a crapshoot in terms of proper color balance. DVDs are far more consistent. Speaking of which, I want to revisit a lot of my favorite movies now that I can watch them on a bigger, wider, clearer screen than I’ve ever had before.

My wife absolutely loves the iPod dock and the ability to control the iPod with the TV remote; I’d love it if my album artwork showed up on the screen. Sound levels from the built-in speakers seem anemic, but since this TV will eventually go into the bedroom, I’ll live with it. That brings me to my one major beef about the set: Although it has three HDMI inputs and various other component/composite inputs, it has no external RCA output (only optical and Viera Link, whatever that is), so I can’t hook it up to either my non-optical receiver or my wireless headphone transmitter.

Overall, though, I’m very happy with this purchase, and will definitely consider a Panasonic Viera for our next (bigger, higher-resolution) HDTV. What blows my mind is that this TV cost about the same as my 25″ RCA did back in 1992. For what it’s worth, I took the RCA to Goodwill; as far as I know it’s still alive and kicking.

Panasonic TC-L32X2 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with iPod Dock

Panasonic TC-L32X2 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with iPod Dock Specifications

Offering excellent picture performance, Panasonic’s 32-inch VIERA TC-L32X2 LCD HDTV provides 720p high-definition imagery and includes a Universal Dock for Apple iPod, which enables you to control and play music and video directly from your iPod or iPhone through your VIERA HDTV. This X2 series model also features 24P Playback function for superb imagery from 24-frame movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, Game Mode for faster image response while playing immersive 3D games, a 20,000:1 contrast ratio, and an improved panel with In Plane Switching (IPS) for an ultra-wide viewing angle and higher moving picture resolution that results in clear, bright images.

This and other models in the X2 line offer Panasonic’s VIERA Image Viewer feature, which enables you to play slideshows of JPEG images stored on SD memory cards, as well as the VIERA Link feature for controlling a variety of compatible components–from Blu-ray Disc players to digital cameras–through a single remote.

Adhering to Panasonic’s commitment to the environment, this VIERA model–as well as all 2010 models–features improved power consumption and meets the new, more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements.

In Plane Switching (IPS): The latest iteration of Panasonics IPS LCD panel features excellent light transmittance and a wide viewing angle. The wide 178-degree viewing angle–both horizontally and vertically–ensures clear images even when viewed from an angle. And the panel backlight’s wide transmission aperture enhances the contrast between light and dark, improving motion-image response.

Game Mode: With Game Mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What’s more, VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works with the anti-image retention (wobbling) function, too.

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

Customer Reviews

Nice little TV – PENNAME – VA, USA
Got it for my sunroom. Picture looks great in almost direct sunlight. The controls are pretty basic and the picture controls are too. Not a fan of the matte/glossy finish. Mounted on a white wall so its pretty ugly (from my POV). Cable picture looks great. Feel like I got a great deal. <0

            Review – Hector D. Iglesias –
I have no major complains about this TV, just praise in general. It is ergonomically pleasing, its remote control and operations are extremely friendly (as with most other Panasonic products I buy). The image produced in HD is really good. Initially the sound was much different to what I was used to in regular TV’s but eventually I got used to it. If I would have the necessary space I’d have bought a set of speakers and base, as this would surely make a huge improvement in sound.
For what it costs is a great deal.

Well worth the price, Nice features. – T. lindquist – north carolina
I ordered this tv to replace a 20 year old one that I was playing xbox on. I love it not just for the gaming but the other features also. the sd card reader and the ipod dock are a great couple of add ons for a tv. its very easy to use and the menus are very user friendly. I ordered it from abt electronics and received it in 4 days. The picture is excellent. I just had to tone down the picture a little while gaming cause it was a little too sharp. but the adjustments were easy to do. I recommend it to anyone.

I have been dreaming of a 52″ Samsung LCD HDTV ever since I saw one in Best Buy, and from all the way across the store you could see it was in a different league from all of the rest. The competition has narrowed some since then, but according to Consumer Reports, the Samsungs are for the most part the highest rated at 74 and 75 out of a possible 77; the 77 was awarded to a 7000 series Samsung TV that is no longer made and is replaced by a very expensive 3D model. When the new LED’s came out, I had read all of the reports, and according to the manufacturer they were supposed to be better. Consumer reports mixed the 74 and 75 ratings on both the LCD’s and LED’s, both garnering the same scores. My friend went and bought 2 LED’s, the 40 and a 32. So I sucked it up and went into Best Buy and saw the LED’s side by side with the LCD’s, and I could not see any difference, and I mean any difference between the pictures at all. So I immediately came home, and bought this 55; the LN55C650. I got scared when I saw the 52 was no longer available, I thought maybe they will phase out the LCD’s, and I better get one while I can. This darn thing was going for well over twice the price less than a year ago. I don’t think they are going to phase them out though.

Many, many reports have been written about the problem of the LED lighting in the Samsung LED models because they went with a side lighting configuration. The Best Buy salesman pointed out the black problem, and the clouding of light in the corners. He commented that the LG did not have that problem and that the blacks were truly black in the LG. I could clearly see it, and the funny thing is when I compared the LG black level, the Samsung LCD was just as black. No black problem there either. The Samsung that I saw was the [ASIN:B0036WT3SY Samsung LN55C630 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV (Black)]] which is the same model as the 650, well almost. Also many complain of when using the LED as a computer monitor, which is side light LED is that the light bursts along the edges as a backlight bleed when using it as a computer monitor, and also during certain types of viewing. I haven’t experienced that myself of course, but many, many independent sources say the same thing.

It would be preposterous of me to assume that Samsung is the only show in town, because it is not. In addition I am bottom fishing, and comparing that level of units. There are LED’s going for 4 or 5 times the amount of money, and I am not doing a side by side with them. So for those who can afford it, maybe they are in a different arena. So onto my enthusiasm.

High def fever strikes home. I bought a couple of Acer H243H bmid 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Display (Black)ACER LCD monitors at 1920 x 1080p and was amazed at the picture. When my friend who bought the LED’s, and then I took him into Best Buy to do an A-B comparison, he returned the LED’s and bought 3 LCD’s, all Samsungs again for the same amount of money. So instead of one 40 inch, and one 32 inch, he wound up with two 46’s, and one 32 for the same money. After I ordered the 55 I couldn’t wait, so I went ahead and bought a 46 the LN46C670 which is equal to the Samsung LN46C650 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV (Black) I put the 46 in the bedroom, and the 55 in the living room. I realized that after viewing high def, I wasn’t going to be satisfied with the bedroom set.

I am running my home network with a Multimedia Center PC Windows Ultimate Vista 64, and feeding the TV’s with the Cisco-Linksys Media Center Extender with DVD and they have “up scaling” which gives you a 1080p equivalent. Most all TV stations are broadcasting in 1080i due to bandwidth considerations of having to pump through the enormous amount of data for 1080p, so with the up scaling, to make up for that, you can really see the difference. Unless you have a Blu-ray player, or HD DVD you are probably not getting 1080P. I have an antenna on the roof, and receive all of my programming totally free. Except for when it rains, and you get picture freeze, it is a great setup. My philosophy is to buy the hardware and save the monthly nut. In three years my TV’s will pay for themselves in what I would have spent on cable.

Go for this 55 inch model, it has the extra wattage in the audio, pumping out a whopping (satire) 15 watts a side instead of 10, and yes you can hear the difference between the 46 and 55 because of that. Set it to SRS Surround and tweak the equalizer in both models. Also the internet built into the set is definitely something you want to have. You can see the app’s listed in this product description that are automatically provided. Also with Google TV coming in the fall, they state that TV’s that are already internet ready will be able to take advantage to the integration. They also have partnered with Logitech to create a separate box with keyboard and mouse to integrate the web. I was hoping to get Amazon Video on Demand because they have the latest releases as cheap as 99 cents, and no monthly subscriber fee; so you can enjoy a movie when you want, and not pay for one when you don’t. Google the Google TV feature, it is “Smart TV” and as they claim will change the way we use the big screen forever. Why not integrate our TV’s totally into the mainstream. It’s pretty exciting. I don’t know if the internet TV feature will avoid you having to get the Logitech module or not, but there is a chance that it will. I love the already included in the TV’s Pandora free radio, no commercials, and all my favorite music, old and new pumped into the TV, or you can go online and do it there also. This TV with the ethernet port already has a ton of content built right in. The first time you hit the internet content button it will download the latest apps. There are more apps to come whereas this new medium is an ongoing development. So for the small amount of additional money, move up to the interent TV feature.

TV sizes are deceiving. It is my suggestion to go a little larger than you normally would. There are two main reasons for this; one is that you don’t want to think in terms of old tube sizing dimensions. A 55 inch LCD is only.. what? 33 inches tall, but super wide. So if we had an old square TV, a 35 would seem large, whereas a 32 in an LCD would be much smaller in comparison. Also you need to realize that this is going to be a long term investment, and the experience you want to go for is the feeling like the person on TV is right there in the room with you, or in the action scene you are right there in the middle of it. A lot of people think old TV dimensions so they tend to buy something that in reality has a bigger number attached to it, like a 40, but after getting it home and viewing it for awhile, they wind up wishing they had at least one size larger. Also, another change in thinking is that with old TV’s the resolution was so bad you needed to get real far away from it to make it appear smooth, so with my small room, I am only going to get a 32 for example. With the super high resolution you can get a lot closer. See the chart for see what the range of sizes are for your viewing distance.

To me after owning these, it has created a feeling in me, every time I watch it, and even every time I walk through the room that this is something special. It makes me smile, and I get a lift. I get the feeling in both rooms that I now have a media room. Ok it is not one of those crazy special rooms with the theatre seating, and a whole wall projector screen, but I get some of that same feeling. To me it is a game changer. It is a chin lifter. I know that sounds ridiculous, but that is the feeling that I get. It’s like WOW this is profoundly affecting my fun time, and is giving me something to look forward to. Maybe over time I will grow more accustomed to it, but for now it feels like a real game changer. Check out the photo I uploaded. I know this is a high quality plastic surround but the finish on it looks like a polished grand piano. I tried to capture it on film as best I could. Get the fever, and no matter what set you get and by whatever manufacturer, join the over 60 million people who own high def TV’s in this country.

Great set, bad PIP – Kevin T. Atkinson – greenville, sc USA
Samsung is still behind Sony in use and funtionality. The TV works very well but Samsung engineers made some mistakes. The inablity to not connect a keyboard is a huge issue with the overall ease of use with the internet/web based applications. Another quarky issue i noticed right off the bat is with the “PIP” picture in picture option. I bought this tv on the premise the pip would be fully functional. I’ve used many sets over the years, basially all sony’s and they got the pip right on the mark. Samsung however has opted to only allow the sub picture to use the cable/air input which doesn’t permit you to source any of the hdmi/component devices to it. This blunder is a waste of the pip option. The Coax input will basically be outdated in 2 years which will make the pip feature obsolete on this set. If you want to get a set with pip you’re going to have to look else where as all samsung TVs are made this way.

Great buy, great TV – Brian – WA
I’ve had this TV for about 8 weeks at the time of this writing. I felt I should get some usage out of it before sharing my opinions. I finally decided to replace my early model oversized rear projection HDTV that I’ve had for ten years. I knew I wanted a Samsung LCD based on reputation. The lower-end LEDs still have some issues, so I decided to stick with the tried-and-true traditional LCD. This new model wasn’t available in any store yet, so I bought it from Amazon having never seen it and finding no reviews. I also bought the USB wireless internet device to go with it so I could use the integrated Netflix.
The default picture had the much-touted “soap opera effect” and was terribly distracting. Everything was like watching a homemade video. After some fiddling with the settings that I found online for last year’s model, the picture is fantastic. There is some minimal glare from the windows behind me, but not to the point of being distracting. My old TV had much worse glare issues. I’m also pleased with the viewing angle. Yes, I suppose the picture is not quite as sharp as straight-on viewing, but it’s still very good, and nobody in my family has ever mentioned it or attempted to change seating based on the angle.
This model has about a dozen built-in internet applications, including Youtube (cumbersome) and some games (lame), but the real gem here is Netflix. I used to use a Roku box, but this is seamless, and if you’re lucky enough to select an HD title and have adequate bandwidth, the picture is great.
For the time that I’ve had this TV, there is nothing I don’t like about it. It even looks good when it’s off.

Customer Reviews

            Samsung 55 inch TV – B. Disbrow –
The TV is crisp clear and the sound is the best I have ever heard from a flat screen TV. I really like the swivel base. It makes it easy to adjust the angle, which I do because I watch it from the kitchen and the living room.

The picture is great, much better than the LCDs and LEDs we looked at, which were too bright in all circumstances. The sound is okay, but there’s a flaw that may be standard on today’s flat televisions, but is something I can’t quite fathom: the lack of analog “audio outs” on the back of the set. Why is this important? Because if you use an RF headset to hear the sound, as I do, there’s NOWHERE TO PLUG IT IN! Thus, the headset has to be plugged into the back of the cable box. Oh, but you want to watch a DVD? Now, you have to pull everything out of the shelf so you can get to the back and replug the headset base into the back of the DVD player. Back and forth, forever and ever. It sucks, quite frankly, and it would have added nothing to the cost to put analog outs on the back of the set, which bristles with more inputs than anyone could possible use. (Yes, there’s a digital audio out, but find me a headset that can use it, please.)

And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects (see an illustration of 600Hz technology).

Infinite Black: The luminous efficiency of this NeoPDP Plasma panel has been improved by reducing the electrical pre-discharge that causes graying has greatly enhanced black gradation. The result is crisp blacks with no graying–even in living rooms with bright, afternoon lighting. And minimizing the electrical pre-discharge helps to both raise contrast and save energy.

THX Certified Display: THX reproduces film images as the filmmakers intended them. To receive THX certification, TVs undergo stringent tests to determine, for example, whether the exact same brightness and color are displayed at all screen locations, and whether black levels satisfy standard criteria.

Customer Reviews

Panasonic rules! – isidro garcia – Corpus Christi,Tx.
I own the 50G10 from 2009 but I felt I had to reply to Christians comments on fading black levels. I have now owned this HDTV for 15 months and it has been nothing but a joy. The black levels on my set have if anything gotten better. I use custom picture settings and now that the phosphers have settled in the picture quality is outstanding. I constantly browse the local Best Buy and I am confident that I made the best choice in a HDTV. Until OLED screens are mass market will I feel the need to upgrade. I will monitor the black levels, but after 15 months Christian’s concerns are a non-issue with me.

Great TV – Dennis L. Chojnowski – Inverness, FL USA
This TV is the best I have ever owned. Picture quality is superb. Love the ability to plug in a flash drive or SD card to view photos or video.

            Gorgeous Display – J. Rodriguez – Chicago
Just got this TV this past week and it has a gorgeous image. The menu isn’t too complicated and the setup was very easy. The sound does pale in comparison to the rest of the amazing features on the unit. It doesn’t matter though because I have it running through our receiver. I recommend it highly!

After taking back the dreaded Panasonic that i just couldnt get into, i said well i’ll go ahead with the samsung LED. Well much to my delight they had this model, my friend had this C650 C meaning this years model, the display was a B meaning last years model and i was about to go with it but they had none. So i said ok just give me the new one. I got mine at Sears so i sat with two remotes, one for this and one for the 1899% LED 46″, the picture on this just crushed it, i adjusted all the same setting on both and it was just like night and day, and this was just BASIC CABLE!! So i was sold, got it home, hooked it up, had it set up within like 5 minute with little to no fine tuning and its just the best picture you will find on any model of Samsung out there. This is a higher end model and it has the glass panel covering the front, as some do, and some don’t, this give it a real glass type look, and movies just out at you almost like 3-D. Avatar looked amazing and my father about fell over when he saw the picture compared to his 52″ Samsung from last year(which looked great) but nothing like this. So you think LED’s are overrated? Well this will prove you right, i’ve been through many TVs trying them out, tweeking them etc. and nothing can top this one, sure the Panasonic had very deep black levels and a great picture, but it didn’t have the 120hz Motion Plus and didn’t swivel. The 600hz that is broken up into 60hz each all around the Plasma HDTVs doesnt compare to the fluent motion of the lcd’s, you still see judder and motion blurr, just a little less blur, but lots of lag. Its still there just like the regular 60hz tv’s although sometimes not as bad. Still if you want that cinematic experience and things that make a movie look like you’re seeing for the first time, get this one. Its well worth it and then some.

Customer Reviews

            100% Satisfied – stick –
I’ve had the TV for a month now and have been completely satisfied with the purchase. The quality and price beat any other LCD competitors.

I have to look into why the channel info says 60 hertz on the refresh but the TV is supposed to be 120 hertz. It looks like a marketing ploy that it’s 60 hertz but software increases it 120 hertz. Regardless, the HD video looks excellent so not a big deal.

VA Samsung Owner – S. Pace – No. Virginia
The TV is everything I needed plus internet which hasnt been installed yet. Got a Belkin router to run internet movies on the TV. The router is fantastic but needed instruction from maker how to set up with cable internet. Also had to have cable come in (twice) to set up connection for the TV. Cable here makes every thing hard to do. Once everthing was set up the TV works perfactly. Also the delivery provided by Amazon was great. No problem but an optional small charge to put the stand on. It has to be balanced and not good for one person to do alone.
Only one problem and has notheing to do with the TV..
If you get the promo with Amazon Store Card be prepared to have GE charge every fee they can. The promo said 24 month NO INTEREST on payments. Wrong….GE still charged fee. Beware for back and forth resolution. Still not corrected yet. But the TV is everything it said it is.

large and sharp – John D. Vaughn –
great tv really good picture and color is so real actors look like they are in the room with you.

A GREAT TV! ASTOUNDING PICTURE! – Altaf Bhaloo – Dallas, TX.
The TV that makes your jaw open wide with amazement! amazing picture clarity, excellent sound and flawless internet connection makes this SAMSUNG the TV of clearly worth the money spent! I was a SONY fan and now this is my first SAMSUNG purchase makes me proud of myself to have made a wise decision.

Go ahead make the purchase if you are into buying a TV. I am positive you will not regret!, I have had it for a month now and it still amazes me. BRAVO SAMSUNG! keep it up.
Cons: nothing i can think of now but the touch of red is kinda stupid for it never shows and that should never stop you from buying this fine TV

Customer Reviews

Just ok. – M. Hiner – Bridgeport, WV
I bought this product in April 2010 from Amazon. My first TV of this kind. At that time the price was the exact same as Sears(checked model #) and shipping was Free on Amazon, so I ordered from Amazon. CEVA shipping was Fast and GREAT.

Took me a while to get used to this.

THanks to a previous reviewer, I knew what to do when the room got dark so does the picture (stupid idea); but TBone from CA provided the answer for that turn off the Eco Picture and that solves that problem.

I thought the TV had auto adjust volumn, still have not figured that out. After reading a review, I might have to go back into the settings.

The volumn is poor as speakers are in the back, I do not have or plan to have surround sound, so this is a negative for me. Had I realized this I would have bought a different brand with the speakers in front, of which, now I realize there are plenty of them out there.

I am sure this is a good tv for some, but it does not impress me.
FOund the settings very hard to get thru and set.

These sets all crap out in under two years–buyer beware – Buster Brindle – San Francisco, CA
This set was amazing–great picture quality, worked well, etc., but then at about the two year mark the set simply just started turning itself on then off then on and then off etc. endlessly without even touching the remote control. I did a web search and, apparently, this is a VERY common problem with Samsung LCD TV sets. It appears that inferior capacitors are used and that the tops of the capacitors literally fall off over time, causing the sets to be stuck in a start-up/shut-down loop. This is too bad because, while the set worked, it was the best picture I’ve ever had on a TV set. However, when I spend K for a TV, I expect it to last longer than two years.

Great HDTV – Martin Shultz –
I made this purchase based off the reviews from CNET and Consumer Reports. I must say I’m not disappointed, great picture, good sound, at a good price.

Hard to beat too when you get free shipping to your door and no sales tax.
